It is no secret that standards for the sound quality of new releases are in steady decline. The sound is getting more and more compressed and loud, which means that dynamic contrasts and air are largely absent. In turn it removes dynamics peaks with pauses and breathing space for the ears.
The making of the DALI CD Vol. 5
This DALI release has been produced with focus on using as little compression as possible and on high quality sound. As always, the purpose of this release is to present a wide ranging musical selection to inspire music lovers to take more pleasure in repeated listening to fine performances and outstanding sound production.
The dogma was simple: to create music with nerve, presence and authenticity with minimal use (if any) of compression and Auto-Tune – with all instruments, lead vocals and backing vocals recorded on the spot.
17 recording sessions in the Medley Studios
This compilation contains no less than 17 completely different orchestras/groups from as many different musical genres. Each individual recording has been made live in the studio with all instruments, musicians, separate microphone set-ups and necessary mixing gear installed.
This was a demanding task, especially because we wanted to give the artists control and let them influence the entire process and join in on the other side of the mixing desk during the two working days set aside for each track.
This method meant that no two takes were the same, but that was just a part of the charm of the process. After all, it is the final result that counts; 17 original recordings by artists, who were given the opportunity to let loose in Copenhagen’s legendary Medley Studios.
With the experienced Jakob Groth as engineer and with another industry legend, Bjørn Engelmann of the Cutting Room in Stockholm in charge of the mastering, the artists were granted the rare freedom to “do their thing” without being run through the usual “sausage grinder” of musical conformity.

VOL 5 ARTISTS
HUSH
HUSH consists of singer Dorthe Gerlach and guitarist Michael Hartmann. The duo is based in Copenhagen and is known for their acoustic pop/Americana sound with a strain of Nordic melancholy.
Erann DD
Erann DD is one of the funkiest Danish soul singers of his time. Throughout his almost 30 year career, he has drawn inspiration from Soul, Jazz, R’n’B and Funk and combined it with pop.
Caroline Henderson
Caroline Henderson began her successful career as a pop princess in the end 80’s and start 90’s. Over the years, the singer evolved and today she is recognized as the undisputed Jazz Diva of Denmark.
Go Go Berlin
Go Go Berlin is a Danish rock band that was formed in 2011. Since then they have been known as a hardworking and dedicated band and they have created a name for themselves.
Oh Land
Danish singer-songwriter, Oh Land has since the release of her first album in 2008, moved within the electro pop-genre. She is an award-winning multi-talent, and on previous albums, she has programmed beats, played a variety of instruments as well as doing the vocal.
Operazione
Eline and Thomas are active as opera singers, mainly performing as part of The Danish National Opera ensemble. They also perform as soloists in classical works with orchestras all over Denmark as well as starring in musicals.
Jakob Dinesen
Jacob Dinesen’s music career started a decade ago, when he received his first guitar at Christmas. Drawing inspiration from Bruce Springsteen, Allan Taylor, Frank Zappa, Van Morrison and Dougie Maclean, the young song-writer has his musical foundation in the folk and rock genre.
GinmanBlachmanDahl
Long-time friends, Lennart Ginman, Thomas Blachman and Carsten Dahl, have performed together for years and are one of Denmarks finest modern jazz trios.
Wangel
Wangel is a pop/electronic duo consisting of singer-songwriter Peter Wangel and producer Kasper Ejlerskov Leonhardt.
LiveStrings
LiveStrings is string ensemble, based in Copenhagen. They perform and record music with artists from different musical scenes and thereby, cover a wide range of genres.
Thorbjørn Risager & The Black Tornado
Thorbjorn Risager & The Black Tornado is a blues band, which was formed more than a decade ago. Over the years, the band has received awards, played in more than 21 different countries and recorded 10 albums.
Jacob Bellens
Jacob Bellens has been part of the Danish music scene since the middle of the 00’s both as a member of a rock band and as a sing-songwriter in a pop duo and in 2012, he released his first solo album.
Dreamers’ Circus
Dreamer’s Circus is a Danish folk group, which was formed in 2009. They met by chance during a folk festival in Copenhagen. Ale and Rune were standing in the corner of a pub jamming some folk tunes. Nikolaj just came in, sat at the piano and began to play along. The three of us ended up playing together all through the night. And since then they have worked hard on creating and playing music.
Pernille Rosendahl
In her 25 year long career, Pernille Rosendahl is recognised for her role as lead singer in the bands Swan Lee (among others known for the James Bond theme song 'Tomorrow Never Dies') og The Storm. In 2016 she released her first solo album.

Dúné is an award-winning band from Denmark. Their genre is a mash up of catchy melodies and fierce electro elements, which has taken them across the globe.

Rhino is created out the love for music and include members, who are all playing in different well-known bands.

The Danish underground band, Zar Paulo gives their take on how Danish rock music should sound through analogue synthesizers, edgy guitar and contemporary electronic elements.
