As the name suggests, in-ceiling speakers are low-profile speakers designed to be installed into the surface of a ceiling. Containing much of the same technology as a conventional cabinet speaker, in-ceiling speakers deliver true Hi-Fi sound in a space-saving form that integrates seamlessly into any room.

Are in-ceiling speakers good enough for music?

DALI PHANTOM in-ceiling speakers feature the same technology as our conventional compact and floorstanding speakers. From wood-fibre cones and ultra-lightweight soft dome tweeters to wide dispersion and low-loss magnets, our in-ceiling speakers let you experience an outstanding musical performance in any room in your home.

Maintaining space and aesthetics

If space in your room is limited, in-ceiling speakers are an excellent alternative to traditional cabinet speakers. While filling your room with pure Hi-Fi audio, the discreet design of in-ceiling speakers also retains the aesthetics of your room.

How to install in-ceiling speakers

Although an in-ceiling speaker installation essentially involves making a hole for the speaker, fitting a back-box (if needed), running speaker cable and installing the speaker, it can often pay dividends to call in a professional installer. Contact your local DALI dealer for more information.

A multi-room ceiling speaker system

In-ceiling speakers work great in any room throughout your home. From living rooms to dining rooms, bathrooms to bedrooms, in-ceiling speakers fill your home with discreet Hi-Fi music for the whole family to enjoy.

Be aware, though, that not all in-ceiling speakers are suitable for use in bathrooms and other damp environments. That’s why we’ve developed speakers like the PHANTOM E-60 WR weather-resistant speakers. With IP65-rated ingress protection, these robust in-ceiling speakers are suitable for use in almost any location, from high-humidity bathrooms to covered outdoor terraces.

An integral part of any home cinema

DALI PHANTOM in-ceiling speakers make a great addition to any home cinema surround system, delivering immersive height channel audio in a Dolby Atmos, DTS:X or Auro-3D setup. They also work great as rear/side speakers when floorstanding or wall-mounted speakers aren’t practical.

How to choose the right in-ceiling speakers

When deciding which in-ceiling speakers are right for you, here are some of the things you should consider:

  • Does the design look good in your room? Our in-ceiling speakers are available with attractive white grilles in round and square designs.

  • Do the speakers install securely? DALI PHANTOM-series speakers feature an easy-to-use dogleg mounting system for simple and precise installation.

  • Can you adjust the sound? Switches located on the front of PHANTOM-series speakers let you adjust certain acoustical properties to suit your room. And as the switches are located on the front of each speaker, you can adjust the sound even after installation.

  • If you’re looking for background music in your kitchen, bathroom or a smaller room, a compact speaker like the PHANTOM E-50 or E-50 WR is an affordable in-ceiling speaker with plenty of power to fill smaller rooms with clear, punchy sound.

  • A backbox mounted behind an in-ceiling speaker is usually recommended, as it provides a controlled environment for the speaker to work in – just like the enclosure of a conventional cabinet speaker.

Are ceiling speakers a good idea?

Ceiling speakers can be a great idea, especially when you want to maintain a clean aesthetic in your room or to avoid taking up floorspace that a regular cabinet speaker needs. In-ceiling speakers are also ideal for ambient listening or to add height channels in a Dolby Atmos, DTS:X or Auro-3D home surround sound system.

Do I need an amplifier for my ceiling speakers?

Ceiling speakers typically require an amplifier to power them. It's important to choose an appropriate amplifier based on the speaker's power requirements and the size of the room to achieve optimal audio performance.

Do ceiling speakers need a subwoofer?

Although in-ceiling speakers are capable of producing impressive levels of bass, adding a subwoofer will bring an extra low-frequency richness to almost any room.
