Josefine Cronholm

Josefine Cronholm (b. 1971) lives and works in Denmark. She has performed with many bands and groups, mostly in the Jazz idiom. She also performed with Marilyn Mazur, a percussionist featured on the first DALI CD

In 2001, Cronholm released "Red Shoes" with the group "String Swing". The album features jazz standards and bossa novas, as well as a few remarkable covers. In 2005, she performed her own song "If I Apalogized" and a cover version of The Carpenter's "Close to You" on the MirrorMask movie soundtrack.

Wild Garden
Josefine Cronholm's second album, "Wild Garden", was released in 2002. All compositions except for two are from her hand, featuring strong lyrics, jazzy arrangements and a varied approach. She is accompanied by the four-piece band "IBIS", including drums/percussion, piano, double bass, and trumpet/flugelhorn. "Wild Garden" was followed by "Hotel Paradise", released in 2003 with the same backing band.

In Your Wild Garden
"In Your Wild Garden" starts out with a short double bass theme, quickly followed by percussion and Cronholm's captivating voice. From there on, the composition evolves very naturally, building layer upon layer, adding instruments and instrumental parts on the fly. All instruments sound very natural and fluent. Next to Cronholm's voice, the flugelhorn stands out, both in sound as well as arrangement. And just as natural as the arrangement builds up, it winds down again, ending with soft piano chords dying out.
