PAT METHENY

Metheny is gifted with an incredible ability to switch between styles.

Pat Metheny (born in 1954, USA) started his career in the 1970s. His talent as a guitar player was recognised by the legendary vibraphonist Gary Burton, who offered the young Metheny a place in his quartet.

Later, Metheny started his own trio with Bob Moses on drums and the legendary Jaco Pastorius on bass.

Track: And I Love Her (J. Lennon/P. McCartney)
Album: What's It All About (2011)
Label: Nonesuch/Warner Music
Appears on: DALI CD Vol. 3

Metheny is gifted with an incredible ability to switch between musical styles and attitudes. It's always exciting to discover in which direction he is developing. It can be hard to predict his ideas but to assume the style of his next release will be different from his last is usually a safe bet.

And I Love Her
The track And I Love Her receives the Metheny treatment. The original Beatles version of this beautiful melody dates back to 1964.

For decades, Metheny has been among the most versatile guitarists on the jazz scene. His style has always been characterised by a strong desire to experiment with the tonal possibilities typical of the experimental jazz scene.

Here, however, you almost get the impression that Metheny has surrendered to the music, as his interpretation emphasises the inner peace and integrity of this composition, which stand in dramatic contrast to the chaos that surrounded the Beatles at the time.

The quality of this sound recording is excellent and, with good speakers in your sound system, it's easy to hear that Pat Metheny plays a guitar with nylon strings.
