Jacob Bellens is renowned for his ability to pen delicate, almost simple melody lines – and interpret them in a very personal way with his highly characteristic voice. His latest album, My Convictions, underlines his strengths, reaching far beyond his country's borders. This time presented through a collection of songs of a more light nature. Which is no coincidence:
Alice Boman’s voice hits you with presence and fragility draped in direct and emotional music that doesn’t try to puff itself up. Or, as the Swedish singer expresses it herself: - I think my music is quite simple. And I want it to feel kind of timeless, just like that; that it is, what it is. Not too much fuss, she explains and highlight the track All Eyes On You as her own favourite example as regards sound and feeling.
My music is handmade. Like it used to be in the past, but with the great sound of today. Says ELEN, the talented young German singer, whom financed her international debut via crowdfunding and whose background as a street musician formed her understanding of music and appreciation of good sound.
Jeffrey Lewis is the rare combination of a musician and a comic book artist in one person. He’s been compared to Bob Dylan’s lyrical capacities, Rolling Stone Magazine calls him downright inspiring, and Jarvis Cocker of Pulp finds him to be “the best lyricist working in the US today”. ZAGREB GUITAR QUARTET
Bach. There’s no hesitation when I ask who the most challenging classical composer to perform as a guitar quartet is. It’s Bach. Always was and always will be. We’ll get back to Bach during the interview, but first, let’s introduce this highly acknowledged classical guitar quartet:
