Jacob Bellens has been part of the Danish music scene since the middle of the noughties, both as a member of a rock band and a singer-songwriter in a pop duo. In 2012, he released his first solo album.
JACOB BELLENS
"I set out to write a modern take on the '70s piano ballad."
Jakob Bellens – Beneath a Cloud
Vocal/piano: Jacob Bellens, Electric Bass: Anders ‘AC’ Christensen
Label: Hfn Music.
Appears on: DALI CD Vol. 5
"I wrote this song sometime around 2008, just after meeting my girlfriend and set out to write a modern take on the '70s piano ballad. I had it lying around for some time, not really knowing what to do with it and ended up recording a heavily synthesized vocoder version with my band, I Got You On Tape, for our fourth album Church of the Real in 2011.
Since then, I’ve been coming back to the original feeling quite a few times when playing my solo sets, which is why it felt like an obvious candidate when DALI asked me to do a recording for them. The track consists of piano, electric bass, strings and a choir, and I am very glad to finally have a version that fits my original intention for the song."
This track started out as a simple live recording with piano, vocal and bass, and ended up with a string quartet and a choir ensemble of 16 women and 10 men.
