Low Loss

The selection of low-loss materials and construction is a fundamental part of every DALI loudspeaker. From the placement of the bass ports and design of the crossover, cone and suspension materials to the voice-coil and magnet motor system, minimising loss is one of the most important ways of recreating an amazingly transparent and faithful acoustic performance.

One way we create the best possible working environment for the voice-coil is by using extremely lightweight materials to reduce the sluggishness created by an unyielding rubber surround.

By replacing iron with our patented SMC (Soft Magnetic Composite) technology in the magnet motor, we also dramatically lower hysteresis and eddy currents, which significantly reduces mechanical driver distortion. Lowering the mechanical and magneto-mechanical loss is also particularly important, as these sources of distortion are always of a non-linear nature.

With extremely low mechanical loss, we preserve even the most delicate acoustic details, also at very low listening levels. This is the best way to recreate the authenticity and liveliness of the original recording… just how the artist intended it.

The Eight DALI Sound Philosophies

Amplifier Optimised

The interplay between amplifier and speaker is an essential part of improving the quality of sound from the amplifier, which we achieve by creating a stable, linear environment for the amplifier when driving the loudspeaker load.
