Lars Worre, DALI CEO
DALI History & Organisation
At DALI — Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries — everything begins with your connection to sound. Our purpose is to bring you closer to the music and films that matter to you, through sound reproduction that feels natural, detailed, and engaging. Every DALI loudspeaker is designed, engineered, and manufactured to translate advanced acoustic innovation into real listening value, shaped by careful craftsmanship and long-term thinking.
Our approach to sound
DALI’s Sound Design Principles reflect our commitment to truthful musical reproduction. These principles include amplifier optimisation, sound clarity, low loss, low resonance cabinets, time coherence, holographic imaging, and wide dispersion. Together, they ensure a balanced and natural sound experience, allowing you to hear rich detail and musical nuance not only in a single listening position, but throughout the room.
Learn more on Sound design principlesOUR VISION
We exist to enrich everyday life through pure and immersive sound experiences. Sound is more than technology. It is a way to connect with emotion, memory, and artistic intent. This understanding guides how we think, design, and make decisions across the organisation.
OUR MISSION
We create loudspeakers that deliver lasting performance and dependable quality. Every DALI product is designed to be a long-term partner in your listening journey, offering clear and effortless sound across music, film, and everyday audio.
A journey through our Nørager factory
Located in the countryside of northern Denmark, our factory in Nørager has been the heart of DALI for four decades. It is here that ideas are developed, technologies refined, and loudspeakers brought to life. The Nørager factory is defined by careful work and attention to detail. Engineers, designers, and skilled technicians work side by side with a shared focus on consistency, precision, and acoustic performance. Each product is assembled, tested, and evaluated to ensure it meets our standards before leaving the factory.
A proud Danish legacy
DALI was founded in 1983 by Danish audiophile Peter Lyngdorf, with the ambition to create loudspeakers that reproduce music as honestly as possible. In 1986, the establishment of our Nørager factory laid the foundation for a vertically integrated approach to loudspeaker development, combining design, engineering, and manufacturing under one roof. Our Danish heritage continues to shape how we work. Scandinavian design values such as clarity, functionality, and restraint influence both the visual expression and acoustic integrity of our products.
Design and craftsmanship
Every design choice is made with performance and longevity in mind. Cabinets, drivers, and internal components are developed to support acoustic accuracy, durability, and visual simplicity. At DALI, form follows function, ensuring that design serves the listening experience rather than competing with it. Human expertise remains central to our production process. Skilled technicians assemble and test each product, ensuring consistent quality grounded in experience and care.
Who we are
Our organisation is built on authenticity, reliability, technical expertise, and craftsmanship that performs under real-life conditions. These values guide how we work internally and how we support listeners, partners, and professionals worldwide. Transparency, long-term thinking, and respect for the listening experience form the foundation of how we develop products and relationships.
Our products
We design and manufacture loudspeakers for a wide range of listening situations. Our portfolio includes floor-standing, bookshelf, centre, surround, wall-mounted and ceiling-mounted loudspeakers, subwoofers, wireless systems, portable audio, and complete home cinema solutions. Each product is developed with a clear purpose: to deliver accurate, natural, and engaging sound that fits seamlessly into everyday life. Whether for dedicated music listening, home cinema, or professional use, there is a DALI solution designed to meet your needs.
The evolution of DALI

The 1980s & 1990s
1983: DALI is founded
DALI was founded in Denmark in response to growing demand for loudspeakers that deliver genuine Hi-Fi performance across a wide range of sizes and prices. Emerging from Scandinavia’s leading audio retail chain, Hi-Fi Klubben, founder Peter Lyngdorf set out to create best-in-class loudspeakers for every category.
1984: The first speaker is born
The DALI 2 offered performance comparable to far more expensive competitors at roughly half the price. This value-driven philosophy became a cornerstone of the brand and is evident in modern successors like the OBERON 3. The DALI 2 also marked the company’s first entry into the US market, soon followed by the DALI 6, which introduced DALI’s iconic soft dome tweeter.
1986: The DALI Headquarters
Peter Lyngdorf approved construction of DALI’s headquarters in Nørager, Denmark. This site became and remains the heart of DALI’s engineering, development, and operations, forming the foundation for decades of innovation.
1987: DALI 40
The DALI 40 gained attention for its advanced engineering and performance. Its patented bass system used four eight-inch drivers in an L-coupling configuration to cancel reaction forces, allowing deeper, more controlled bass. The DALI 40 became a benchmark for high-performance loudspeakers in the industry.
1988: DALI DACAPO
In 1988, DALI introduced the DACAPO, a pioneering loudspeaker featuring a magnetostatic ribbon system. Fully developed in-house, it showcased DALI’s precision and innovation, with ribbon technology later used in the SKYLINE and refined for the MEGALINE series. The DACAPO quickly earned recognition for its clarity and performance, leaving a lasting legacy in high-fidelity design.
1990: DALI goes global
In 1990, DALI began a focused global expansion, forming a dedicated export team. This led to the opening of sales offices in Germany (2001) and the UK (2005), and by 2006, DALI products were available in over 50 countries worldwide.
1991: DALI SKYLINE
The SKYLINE loudspeakers combined ribbon tweeters with electro-dynamic drivers, introducing a bold new design and advanced performance. The series earned global acclaim and established DALI as an innovative force in the international market.
1992: DALI 150 AKA. DALI MENUET
In 1992, DALI introduced the 150 (also known as the DALI MENUET), a compact loudspeaker that delivered remarkable clarity and cohesion. Its closely spaced drivers and small front baffle created a cohesive soundstage, with lows and highs blending seamlessly. The DALI 150 demonstrated that precision and timing can achieve exceptional Hi-Fi performance without a large cabinet.
1995: DALI ROYAL
In 1995, DALI introduced the ROYAL Series, combining elegant design, premium materials, and signature DALI sound. Hand-assembled in Denmark, the series featured low-loss drivers, wide dispersion, and natural tonal balance. The lineup included the ROYAL TOWER floor-stander, ROYAL MENUET II bookshelf, ROYAL SCEPTER standmount, and ROYAL CENTER speaker, all tuned for clarity, musicality, and seamless integration in stereo and home cinema setups.
1996: DALI MEGALINE
The MEGALINE full-range line-source speaker features six dipole ribbon tweeters and 24 custom bass/mid drivers. Developed as an engineering showcase, it combines low distortion with vast dynamic headroom, delivering exceptional clarity and scale. The impressive MEGALINE is a legendary loudspeaker and one of the most distinguished designs ever made by DALI.
1997: DALI GRAND Series
The GRAND Series reduced dynamic distortion through redesigned magnet and voice coil systems, improving control. Its Scandinavian-inspired cabinets also elevated loudspeaker craftsmanship to new aesthetic heights.
1999: DALI EVIDENCE
In 1999, DALI launched the EVIDENCE Series, combining low-loss driver technology, premium cabinetry, and meticulous crossovers for transparency, detail, and scale. The lineup included the EVIDENCE 870 flagship floor-stander, 470 slim floor-stander, 370 bookshelf speaker, and C70 centre speaker, each designed for wide dispersion, natural tonal balance, and musical realism in both stereo and home cinema setups.
