When renovating a home from the ground up, there’s a rare opportunity to think beyond the obvious. For this Danish homeowner, that opportunity became the foundation for a fully integrated audio solution including a dedicated home cinema in the basement, designed in collaboration with HiFi Klubben.
Starting from scratch
What began as the purchase of an older house quickly evolved into a full-scale renovation. The property was stripped back to its core - “almost just four walls,” as the homeowner describes it - creating a unique opportunity to integrate sound and technology throughout the entire house.
“With everything open, it just made sense to think about audio and TV as part of the solution from the beginning.”
Architectural drawings were shared early in the process, allowing HiFi Klubben to design a complete, tailored installation across multiple floors, from living spaces to outdoor areas, and ultimately, a dedicated home cinema in the basement.
A professional approach
Rather than managing the technical details himself, the homeowner chose to rely on expert guidance.
“I made a conscious decision to leave that part to the professionals. Otherwise, I would have had to spend a lot of time understanding something that they already do every day.”
HiFi Klubben developed and refined the solution in close dialogue with the homeowner, balancing performance, budget and practical considerations. While initial proposals were ambitious, the final system reflects a carefully prioritised setup, ensuring the home cinema delivered the right experience without compromise.
Project at a glance
Project: Private home renovation in Denmark
Solution: Fully integrated custom installation with a dedicated basement home cinema
Partner: HiFi Klubben in Denmark
Priority: Invisible installation, immersive performance and seamless integration
The basement cinema
At the heart of the installation is a purpose-built home cinema, discreetly integrated into the basement.
The system features a powerful multi-channel setup built around the Denon AVC-X3800H AV amplifier, paired with a combination of in-wall and in-ceiling speakers from the DALI PHANTOM series speakers.
The configuration includes:
Front and centre channels using PHANTOM M-series speakers (2 x M-375 and 1 x M-675)
Four in-ceiling PHANTOM E-80 speakers for immersive surround sound
A DALI SUB E-12 F subwoofer for deep, controlled bass
All equipment is neatly organised in a dedicated technical room, keeping the cinema space clean, uncluttered and focused on the experience.
Designed to be invisible
A key priority throughout the project was aesthetics. The homeowner emphasises that the goal was not just great sound but a clean, minimalist home.
“For us, it was very important that everything was discreet. We didn’t want visible speakers; we wanted something that blended into the house.”
By choosing in-wall and in-ceiling solutions, the system becomes virtually invisible, allowing the architecture and interior design to take centre stage while still delivering high-quality audio. sports venue into a vibrant evening destination.

Seamless sound throughout the home
The dedicated home cinema is just one part of the home's integrated audio solution. Throughout the house, DALI PHANTOM in-ceiling speakers (PHANTOM K-60, PHANTOM K-80 and PHANTOM E-60 WR) deliver discreet, high-quality sound in the bedrooms, bathrooms, office and upstairs living areas, while a pair of DALI MENUET loudspeakers provide detailed stereo performance in the library. Together, the multi-room system brings seamless audio to every corner of the home while preserving its clean, minimalist aesthetic.

A space that brings people together
While the technical performance is impressive, the true success of the project lies in how the space is used.
The home cinema has become a natural gathering point, not just for the family, but for their teenage children and their friends.
“There are always people here. They watch films, football, spend time together, and often stay overnight. That was exactly what we hoped for.”
The basement cinema has effectively extended the home’s living space, creating a social hub where entertainment and comfort go hand in hand.
One chance to get it right
Looking back, the homeowner is clear about one thing: integrating the system during the renovation was crucial.
“You only really get one chance to do this properly: when everything is open. Afterwards, it becomes much more complicated. ”
Despite initial hesitation about the investment, the final result has exceeded expectations for the entire family.
“Today, everyone agrees. It was the right decision.”
DALI PHANTOM E-80
The DALI PHANTOM E-80 is a high-performance in-ceiling speaker that delivers immersive, room-filling sound while remaining virtually invisible. Its powerful 8-inch woofer and wide dispersion make it an ideal choice for dedicated home cinema and surround sound installations.
The value of expertise
From design to installation, the collaboration with HiFi Klubben played a central role in the project’s success.
The combination of technical expertise, practical experience and attention to detail ensured not only a high-performing system, but also a seamless integration into the home.
“It wasn’t just about making it work; it was about making it look right and feel right – and of course sound right. You could really tell they cared about the result.”
Conclusion
This project demonstrates how a well-planned custom installation can transform a home, not just through technology, but through the experiences it enables.
By combining discreet design with powerful performance, the DALI PHANTOM solution delivers a home cinema that is both heard and felt without ever being seen.
