The cabinet is an essential part of every DALI loudspeaker, combining acoustic function with carefully considered design. At our production facilities, each cabinet is shaped through a combination of precision, craftsmanship and advanced production techniques.
From panels to finished cabinet
At DALI’s production facilities, the craftsmanship behind each loudspeaker cabinet is a crucial part of delivering the company’s renowned sound quality. Brian Pedersen, who has worked in cabinet production for more than three years, is part of the team responsible for assembling and finishing cabinets for several of DALI’s loudspeaker ranges, including RUBIKORE, EPIKORE and KORE.
The process begins with what the team calls the “wrap”, where the sides, top and bottom of the cabinet arrive as one piece. From there, glue, internal bracing and divider sections are carefully assembled by hand before the cabinet is folded together.
“We have to make sure everything is completely airtight, so there are no issues later during testing,” Brian explains.
Once assembled, the cabinets are left to dry before moving through several finishing stages involving both robotics and manual craftsmanship. Robots handle the large surface sanding, while the finer details are completed by hand to ensure the finish meets DALI’s standards.
Combining technology with handcraftsmanship
After robotic sanding, the cabinets return to the production team, where edges are rounded, surfaces are refined and every detail is carefully checked by hand.
“The robot can do the rough work for us, but we still need to finish everything by hand right out to the edges,” says Brian.
Part of the finishing work involves creating the soft, rounded edges that define the final appearance and feel of the cabinets. According to Brian, achieving the perfect finish requires both experience and precision.
“When they come here, the edges are very sharp. You have to round them carefully, but you must not remove too much.”
The process also demands constant attention to detail when applying adhesives. Even small inconsistencies can affect the cabinet’s airtightness and overall quality.
Teamwork and continuous improvement
One of the aspects Brian values most is the variation within the production process. Team members regularly rotate between stations, working on sanding, assembly and edge finishing throughout the day.
“The variation is good. It’s nice to move around and work on different parts of the process.”
That flexibility also strengthens collaboration across departments. Feedback from later stages in production, including the lacquer and testing departments, helps the team continuously improve both quality and efficiency.
“If there’s something we can improve, it’s important for us to know. It’s not criticism, it’s about making everything better together.”
Pride in the finished product
For Brian, one of the most satisfying moments is seeing the cabinets return from the lacquer department, transformed into the finished product customers will eventually experience in their homes.
“It’s great to see them once they come back from lacquering. That’s when you really see the final result of everything we’ve been working on.”
The result is a production process built around precision, teamwork and craftsmanship, where every cabinet is carefully prepared to meet the high standards expected from a premium DALI loudspeaker.
