The final assembly is where the many elements of a DALI loudspeaker come together. It is a stage defined by precision, careful inspection and the experience of the people who bring each product to completion.
Bringing every loudspeaker together
At DALI, final assembly is where craftsmanship, precision and attention to detail come together. Every loudspeaker that leaves the factory reflects a production process built on teamwork, quality control and personal responsibility, something Production Technician Rie Uldbjerg Sommer experiences every single day.
Having worked at DALI for four years, Rie has become part of a production environment where flexibility, quality and attention to detail are essential parts of the process.
“There’s so much more behind a loudspeaker than people realise,” says Rie. “Every department plays a part in creating the final product.”
Matching more than components
One of the many responsibilities in production involves carefully matching speaker pairs based on the natural variations found in wood veneer finishes. Even when using the same wood type, no two cabinets are completely identical.
Rie explains how each pair is visually assessed to ensure the finish, colour tone and grain pattern complement one another perfectly before assembly begins.
“You can have quite a large variation in the wood,” she explains. “If you pair a very light cabinet with a darker one, it simply doesn’t look right. That’s why matching is so important.”
This meticulous approach ensures that customers receive speakers that feel like a true pair, visually as well as acoustically.
Quality control at every stage
Attention to detail continues throughout the entire production process. Before assembly starts, components are checked thoroughly to avoid issues later in production. Every workstation is organised carefully, allowing technicians to keep track of all parts and minimise the risk of errors.
For Rie, structure and routine are an important part of maintaining DALI’s high standards.
“It’s about making sure nothing is forgotten,” she says. “We are human, and mistakes can happen, so having a good system is incredibly important.”
Each loudspeaker is also acoustically tested before leaving production. Measurements are carefully reviewed to identify even the smallest irregularities, while technicians also rely on their own listening experience during testing.
“It’s not enough just to trust the measurements,” Rie explains. “You also have to listen carefully. Some things can only be detected by ear.”
Flexibility and collaboration
One of the things Rie values most about working in production at DALI is the variety of tasks and the opportunity to work across multiple stations and product lines.
Over the years, she has assembled several different speaker models, worked with testing, and helped inspect products arriving from the DALI factory in Ningbo in China. The variation keeps the work engaging and strengthens collaboration across departments.
“I really enjoy that no two days are the same,” she says. “You’re constantly learning new things and working with different products.”
The production setup also allows employees to move between tasks depending on experience, physical workload and personal preferences, something Rie feels is handled with great consideration.
Personal responsibility in every product
One small but meaningful detail is the personal initials added during production. Each finished loudspeaker includes the initials of the employee responsible for the assembly process.
For customers, it is a subtle reminder that real people stand behind every product.
“It gives something personal to the product,” says Rie. “Someone has actually built this speaker and taken responsibility for it.”
According to Rie, this sense of ownership is a defining part of the culture at DALI.
“It’s important that things are done properly,” she explains. “Of course we need products out the door, but quality always comes first.”
More than just manufacturing
Behind every loudspeaker from DALI lies a collaboration between multiple teams, from woodwork and drivers to quality control, testing and final assembly.
For Rie, that collaborative spirit is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job.
“There’s a real sense of pride in what we do here,” she says. “Every team contributes to the final result, and together we create something we genuinely stand behind.”
And it is precisely that combination of craftsmanship, accountability and passion that continues to define the DALI approach to loudspeaker production.
