It reproduces the true sound of a full symphony orchestra.

The German audiophile label, Audite, has released three albums in their excellent Edvard Grieg – Complete Symphonic Works series with WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, conducted by Eivind Aadland.

Formed in 1947, the WDR Orchestra's current chief conductor is Finnish-born, Jukka-Pekka Saraste.

Throughout its history, many outstanding conductors have stood in front of this orchestra: Busch, Kleiber, Klemperer, Böhm, Karajan, Wand, Solti, Previn, Maazel, Abbado, Mehta and many more.

During his career, Norwegian conductor Eivind Aaland has paid special attention to Scandinavian composers, so it's no wonder that Grieg, Aadland and this outstanding orchestra are a perfect match for this composition.

In the Hall of the Mountain King
In the Hall of the Mountain King from the Peer Gynt Suite by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg is a brief, yet nonetheless spectacular piece of music. The dynamic range of the recording equipment and the playback setup – including the loudspeakers – is paramount here.

From the soft, subtle introduction to the final crescendo, this recording delivers a truly realistic and impressive reproduction of the fascinating sound of a full symphony orchestra and the natural acoustical properties of a fine concert hall.
